The basis of this revolutionary engine technology is electronic characteristic mapping. The new aspect is that the ignition timing is not determined by engine speed alone but also by load. The electronically controlled injection system always determines the optimum ignition and fuel injection values for every operating state, and so you can expect top performance in every situation. With the new STIHL Injection system, compromising on engine tuning is a thing of the past. There is no need for a carburetor, or for any manual settings. The fully automatic engine tuning, which is optimized for power and consumption, guarantees you top-class power output at all times and for all tasks.
		Generator The generator produces all the power for the controller and, thus, to operate the cut off machine. And it does so right from the first revolution of the crankshaft, while the machine is still starting up. That’s not its only role, though: all the time the machine is running the generator continually reports the crankshaft position, and thus the engine speed, back to the controller.
		Sensor The sensor measures the temperature and pressure in the crankcase. It transmits the data to the controller.
		Controller The controller is the core of the STIHL Injection system. It constantly analyzes the data from the generator and the sensor and controls fuel injection and ignition accordingly. The controller determines the air mass, in other words, the machine load state, from the temperature and pressure data supplied by the sensor. It uses that information together with the speed data from the generator to work out the quantity of fuel needed, the injection duration and the appropriate injection timing. On that basis the injection valve is precision-activated and ignition is initiated. As well as controlling injection, the controller also regulates the electronic water control system.
		Injection pump The injection pump keeps the fuel pressure constant. That ensures that enough fuel at the optimum pressure is always available to the injection valve according to the operating state at the time.
		Injection valve On command by the controller the injection valve sprays the optimum quantity of fuel directly into the crankcase. This process is synchronized perfectly with the combustion cycle.
